BFI Film Academy Recommends Screenings

Glasgow Film Theatre is offering an exciting opportunity to develop young audiences with funded screenings, in association with BFI Film Academy Recommends.

Recruiting partner cinemas

BFI Film Academy Recommends Screenings are funded by the BFI Film Academy Venue Education Fund, and facilitated by Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) Education team in partnership with Eden Court Highlands. This programme of screenings is curated by Glasgow Film Theatre Youth Board who then create pre-recorded additional content to help increase young people’s film knowledge and confidence to engage with independent cinema.

This year, the GFT Education team is looking to work with 4 additional cinemas to offer our support in developing youth audiences in rural communities. They offer a pre-packaged programme of six films selected by young people, for young people (15-25), with accompanying pre-recorded additional 20minute content (for example recorded Q&As with filmmakers, video essays).

Screenings will take place from August-January in the third week of each month and will be accessible and free to 15-25 year olds only.

What support does the cinema get?

  • Licences + print materials for all six film titles paid for
  • All additional content organised by Glasgow Film Theatre and their youth board
  • £1000 funding for marketing the screenings to your local youth audience
  • 2 day visit from the Learning and Youth Industry Officer to support you in the development of youth outreach and programming
  • Link young people from your community to opportunities funded by the BFI Venue Education Fund including access to bursaries for travel and accommodation costs so they can attend film festivals such as Glasgow Film Festival and Inverness Film Festival (note bursaries for young people aged 18-25)
