Host a New Producer and support emerging film exhibition talent.
Our New Producers’ programme helps early career film exhibition talent to enter the sector and gain meaningful, paid experience. We are offering four organisations across Scotland the opportunity to apply to host a New Producer and engage with emerging talent, diversify your programme, and strengthen connections with underrepresented communities. Plus, you’ll develop the skills of both the New Producer, and existing staff.
This year, we’re pleased to be widening the programme: alongside film festivals and venues, we are also welcoming distributors and archives to apply to host a New Producer.
The programme is open to both venues and festivals and will run between December 2026 – March 2027.
Film Hub Scotland funding supports a Living Wage for the New Producers’ placement, alongside training costs, host organisation overheads, living wage and minor event costs.

What is New Producers’?
New Producers aims to create structured pathways into the Scottish film exhibition sector for early-career professionals from underrepresented backgrounds. This is the seventh edition of the programme. To date 16 organisations and 28 participants have successfully undertaken the programme. Our commitment to underrepresented talent
In accordance with the findings of Independent Cinema Office’s UK Film Exhibition Workforce Survey 2026, this year we will specifically encourage applications from people who consider themselves to be from these groups:
- Black and Global Majority
- Those who identify as Disabled
- Those who come from a working-class background
As a result, we intend to work with organisations who can display a tangible commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Access.
Role of the New Producer
The New Producer will work in collaboration with their host organisation to produce and publicise three film events to general audiences, with a focus on inclusion, diversity and outreach.
Each New Producer role will be shaped by their host organisation. The aim is to provide a supportive environment in which they can develop their skills in event production, including marketing, negotiations, fundraising and curation. We hope that the programme will enable participating exhibitors – including venues, festivals, distributors and archives – to support the development of emerging event producers, whilst also benefiting from the New Producers’ energy, insight and perspective.
How does it work?
Each organisation can apply to appoint one New Producer who will work for 3 days per week, for four months (flexibility in the working pattern can be discussed). Film Hub Scotland (FHS) funding supports the New Producers’ training and subsidies 51 days for the placement, equivalent to 17 weeks at 3 days per week.
Minor event costs, host organisation overheads and living wage (£13.45/hour Real Living Wage, as well as National Insurance and Pension) of the New Producer are covered by FHS funding. Selected organisations may choose to extend or expand this arrangement using their own budget, paying their New Producer a higher rate, increasing their work hours/days, or extending the length of their employment.
Throughout the process, the New Producer Coordinator (on behalf FHS) will work with the partnering exhibitors to help recruit and facilitate the onboarding of the New Producer. The New Producer Coordinator and a cohort of selected experts will provide specialised training for the New Producer in event production, curation, marketing, and accessibility, and the Coordinator will offer ongoing informal support via emails and regular calls. They will also offer support to participating organisations ensuring that the scheme is effectively marketed and attracts a diverse range of candidates.

Key dates
The programme is open to both venues and festivals and will run between December 2025 – March 2026. The New Producer positions should be carried out during this period with room for minor variation.

Who can apply?
Organisations must be legally constituted and a member of Film Hub Scotland. If your organisation is not already a member, please visit our Membership page to find out more.
Organisations must also have the following:
- Demonstrable track record of holding film screenings, events, and other film-related activities with a minimum of 4 years of experience
- A physical office space where the New Producer can be based (hybrid arrangements are also eligible), preferably with disabled access
- Any permanent member of staff
