Rip It Up: Take part in the new UK-wide season

The new season from BFI FAN celebrates the changing face of youth rebellion, culture and expression on screen in the UK.

Youth culture in the UK has a wide and varied history. The emotional rollercoaster of being a teenager in the UK has been portrayed on screen in a multitude of ways, whether it’s the defiant rebellion of Teddy Boys, mods and rockers, or the many activist movements that have shaped our society.

This May – October, Film Hub members are invited to join in a UK-wide celebration of youth culture.  With the Southbank Centre marking the 75th anniversary of the Festival of Britain –  a landmark moment of post-war cultural renewal – and 2026 marking the 50th anniversary of Punk, it’s the perfect time to explore how youth scenes and counterculture have inspired new generations, and beyond.

From community cinemas to multi-arts venues, there’s an opportunity for everyone to take part.
