About Us

An audience sits on the floor outside, looking towards a projection that's happening off screen. A projector beams light to the left of the image.

We support our membership of film exhibitors with the funding, training and support to help them bring great cinema to Scotland’s diverse population.

We support a network of over 300 film exhibitors – from film societies to multiplexes – to ensure Scotland’s population can enjoy great cinema, regardless of geography or circumstance.

As part of the BFI Film Audience Network (FAN) we are one of eight Hubs set up across the UK to extend film choice, increase and broaden film audiences, and enhance opportunities for audiences to engage with and learn about film. We work with our FAN colleagues to share knowledge, resources and events to build the capacity of film exhibitors across the UK.

Where we work

We are based at Glasgow Film Theatre, Scotland’s most diverse and best publicly attended independent cinema. It is also the home of Glasgow Film Festival, one of the top three film festivals in the UK.

Glasgow Film has been championing independent cinema in Scotland for over half a century. As a registered educational charity, they have evolved from a single screen into a thriving three screen cinema and hub of activity where children, families, and young people learn about film, communities come together, and filmmakers of the future develop their careers.

With a passionate team and an independently curated programme of rarely screened classics and undiscovered gems, they are proud to provide an inclusive, collaborative space for a diverse film going community that celebrates the magic of Cinema For All.

What we do

We are jointly funded by Screen Scotland and National Lottery Funding from the British Film Institute (BFI). As a result, we offer funding, training programmes and targeted projects that help our members to achieve the priorities outlined in BFI’s Screen Culture 2033 strategy. Primarily, our goal is to help more audiences, in more places, access great screening events.

To do so, we provide our members with a range of funding opportunities, screening programmes, training and networking events. We help Scotland’s exhibitors to become inclusive, show more independent, British and international films, and to reach as much of Scotland’s population as possible.
