Access & Inclusion
In this section
Meaningful access and inclusion allows more people to enjoy great films and events.
As a member of the BFI Film Audience Network (FAN), we embed the BFI Diversity Standards throughout our funding opportunities and projects. When submitting a funding proposal, we expect you to address as many of the Diversity Standards as possible.
We are the Cross-FAN lead for Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI). We work with our EDI Champion to create resources, training and support that supports Film Hub members across the UK to make their screening events more accessible and inclusive. Visit the BFI FAN website for the latest EDI events and resources.

Access Riders
An Access Rider is a document that details a person’s access needs. By offering an Access Rider to colleagues, employees and freelancers, you can give them the chance to tell you how they like to work, and what you can do to support them. Here are some useful resources to help you to create an Access Rider, either for yourself or for your organisation:
- Disability Arts – Access Rider Template
- Shape Arts – Access Documents for Artists
- Unlimited – Creating your own Access Rider
- Diversity Arts Culture, Berlin – What is an Access Rider?
We have created an Access Rider template to help you get started.

Ensuring our events and opportunities are accessible is our top priority, and we have created a set of Access and Inclusion Goals for 2025-26. These are ever-evolving, and we always welcome feedback on how we could improve.
Our goals were inspired by the learnings from Independent Cinema Office’s Disability Across the Board training, which encouraged organisations to develop a Disability Action Plan. By producing your own public-facing Disability Action Plan, you can devise reasonable, time-bound actions that will make your organisation more inclusive. View an example Disability Action Plan here.
