Spotlight

Spotlight is a UK-wide programme to boost cinema activity and increase audience choice in areas with limited film activity.

The programme, launched in 2023 by the BFI Film Audience Network, has invested in eight local areas across the UK, improving access to film screenings and supporting new and existing film exhibitors.

Spotlight takes a hyper-local approach to developing screenings in areas that have been identified as having little, or no, screening provision. Led by a Spotlight Coordinator, the project’s end goal is to establish audiences and screening activities that can be sustained once this targeted support comes to an end. Spotlight on Moray: 2023-26

Since 2023, we have worked in partnership with Eden Court Highlands to support cinema provision in Moray, in the Scottish Highlands.

Film Hub Scotland’s Spotlight Project Coordinator, Gražina Ščučkaitė, has supported a network of community cinemas to deliver sustainable, regular film screenings. In this time, Grazina has supported new cinemas to start regular screenings in their local area, including Ardross Community Cinema (who bagged a Q&A with Alan Cumming for their first-ever screening!) and Cairngorm Community Cinema.

Visit cinemainthehighlands.co.uk to view the participating community cinemas, and find screenings across the Moray area.

BFI Film Audience Network

Spotlight is a programme developed by the UK-wide BFI Film Audience Network (FAN).

Film Hub Scotland is a one of the eight Film Hubs across the UK that make up BFI FAN. BFI FAN ensures people across the UK have the maximum possible opportunity to watch and enjoy screen culture, regardless of geography or circumstances.

The BFI National Lottery Funding Plan 2023-2026 has allocated £9.9m over three years to BFI FAN in order to deliver against the outcomes of the BFI National Lottery Strategy.
