Spotlight On…Fife and Clackmannanshire

We’re delighted to share the next area of focus for our Spotlight project.
Spotlight is a UK-wide programme that aims to increase access to film in areas that are identified as having little, or no, existing independent cinema provision.
Fife and Clackmannanshire
Over the next three years (2026-29), we are delighted to partner with On Fife (Fife Cultural Trust) to boost independent film provision in Fife and Clackmannanshire. Fife is already home to film screenings that take place in community cinemas and established multi-arts venues, alike. Spotlight will help to build a network of these screenings. It will also provide training and offer strategic funding to help these cinemas to become inclusive and sustainable.
What is Spotlight?
Spotlight, launched in 2023 by the BFI Film Audience Network, takes a hyper-local approach to developing film screenings. The project helps to grow audiences and film screenings that can be sustained once Spotlight’s targeted support end. Over the last three years, the programme has invested in eight local areas across the UK.
We decided to focus on Fife and Clackmannanshire for 2026-29 following sector research and conversations with local film programmers, cinema managers, and festival organisers.
Spotlight Coordinator vacancy
A dedicated Spotlight Coordinator – based at Adam Smith Theatre, Kirkcaldy – will support film exhibitors to grow their skills and increase the number of independent film screenings taking place in the area.
We are now recruiting for a Spotlight Coordinator to support this iteration of the project. Learn more and apply (deadline: 30 March 2026).

Spotlight 2023-26
Since 2023, we have worked in partnership with Eden Court, Inverness, to support cinema provision in the Moray Firth region.
Led by Spotlight Coordinator Gražina Ščučkaitė, Spotlight supported established community cinemas in the area (inc. Film Forres and Nairn Community Cinema), whilst helping brand-new cinemas to grow (such as Ardross Community Cinema, Evanton Community Cinema and Cairngorm Community Cinema). Follow Cinema in the Highlands for updates on film screenings taking place across Moray.

The first ever Elgin Film Festival 2026 was a culmination of Spotlight’s work in Moray. The Festival brought Elgin venues and community groups together for a weekend of films and events (19-22 February). To date, over 5,500 people in Moray have attended independent film screenings thanks to Spotlight.

Ilia Ryzhenko, Film Hub Scotland Manager, says: “The impact of our Coordinator’s work in the Moray Firth over the past three years has shown just how effective the Spotlight project is for supporting local film exhibition in historically underserved parts of Scotland. The BFI has recognised these results, significantly increasing Spotlight’s budget for each Film Hub in the UK for 2026-29. We’re extremely fortunate to be partnering with OnFife (Fife Cultural Trust) on this project. By intention, Spotlight work is hyperlocal and very applied, so having a knowledgeable local partner and access to venues in Central Fife is instrumental.”
Karen Taylor, OnFife’s Community Events & Programme Manager, says: “Spotlight is a really exciting project to be part of and we’re looking forward to working with Film Hub Scotland to develop film screenings across Fife. We’re also delighted that the new Spotlight Coordinator is going to be based in one of our venues in the Adam Smith Theatre’s Design Suite.”
