Our Projects

In this section
Alongside funding and training, we offer targeted opportunities for our members to address specific areas of need.
The needs of Scotland’s exhibitors’ are as diverse as their audiences.
On behalf of BFI National Lottery and Screen Scotland, we support our members with specific, targeted projects to enhance their screening activity and develop new audiences.
Spotlight
BFI FAN’s Spotlight project aims to develop activity and build audiences in selected locations where there is currently limited access to a wider range of films. We are working in partnership with Eden Court, Inverness, to support cinema provision in Moray in the Scottish Highlands.
Film Hub Scotland’s Spotlight Project Coordinator, Gražina Ščučkaitė, supports a network of community cinemas to deliver sustainable, regular film screenings. Head to cinemainthehighlands.co.uk where you can view the participating community cinemas, and find screenings across the Moray area.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
On behalf of the wider BFI Film Audience Network, we manage the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Champion role.
Our EDI Champion is Charlie Little (Access Consultant, Matchbox Cine) who is focused on building knowledge within the sector and encouraging best practice for Deaf and Disabled audiences. Charlie has produced the BFI FAN: Access Directory and a series of webinars to support the UK-wide FAN network with access and inclusion.

New Producers’
The New Producers programme provides paid placements for early-career film event producers to work for a cinema or festival within Scotland. New Producers are supported with training and will work closely with their Host organisation to learn all aspects of programming, marketing and delivering film screenings. Previous host organisations have included: Scottish Queer International Film Festival, Take One Action!, Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival and Alchemy Film & Arts.

To date, recipients have included Screen Argyll (Argyll and the Isles), Driftwood (Southwest/Borders), Generation Arts (West Lothian) and WHALE Arts (Edinburgh). Learn more about the 2024/25 recipients here.
