Launch! On the Sea comes to Scottish screens in 2021 with a cinema release. The project brings a programme of archive film and video celebrating RNLI communities across Scotland to audiences, supported by Film Hub Scotland and directed by Shona Thomson in a co-production with Screen Argyll.
Accompanied by a brand new immersive soundtrack composed and recorded by John Ellis, Arun Ghosh, David McEwan, Jason Singh, Jenny Sturgeon, this evocative film will tell the story of the communities behind the lifeboats, and the sacrifices made to save lives on the sea.
Prior to national lockdown, a short version of Launch! premiered at Celtic Connections on 18 January 2020 in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, as part of the Scotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters 20/21 Coastal Connections day.
When restrictions allow, the film will tour cinemas and arts venues across Scotland. Bookings are now open, with the film available in a variety of formats including with subtitles for a subsidised booking fee. The Launch! team encourage venues to support their local lifeboat station by collecting donations at the screening.
If you need support with funding a screening of the film, our Pitch Pots fund might be suitable for you.
