More information

Film Hubs Scotland and Wales are collaborating on a two-day residential Lab in March 2020, bringing together organisations and venues from across the UK with a focus on exhibition talent development, partnership-working, and creating events that are created by and made for people of colour.

Participants will meet their peers from around the UK for an intensive two-day workshop which will involve knowledge exchange, working on personal challenges and finding practical actions / solutions as a group.

Participation will be in pairs; someone from an exhibition organisation led by people of colour and someone from one of their partner cinema venues. We are particularly interested in people in programming, marketing or audience development roles and senior managers from within their respective organisations. This is to help incubate and develop strong and sustainable partnerships, to identify and overcome barriers and blocks to joint working, to enable ideas to be taken forward to a practical outcome and for mentoring/reverse-mentoring to take place in a safe space.

The Lab is a residential and involves presentations from experts (from film exhibition and other art forms), participant sharing sessions, workshops, ideas generation and discussions. The final format and speakers will be adapted through feedback from participants.

It is hoped that the Lab will be part of a wider programme of Reel Change activity which, if it goes ahead, will encompass:

  • A UK-wide programme of British independent and international screenings and events designed to grow and sustain audiences of colour.
  • National network of curators of colour and audience specialists.
  • Skills development and exchange/change agent programme for inclusive culture growth in the sector.
  • Resources including talent database, audience development guides,
  • Commissions including film culture editorial by people of colour
