In Dreams are Monsters

In Dreams are Monsters: BFI Horror screenings in Scotland

BFI Horror Season In Dreams are Monsters is coming to big screens across the UK, 1 October-31 December 2022.

Here are some Scottish screening highlights:

  • Across November and December in the Hebrides, Screen Argyll’s It Came From The Deep will explore local audiences’ complex relationship to the sea, with water both a source of livelihood and a threat to life, a great unknown where lurk monstrous creatures. Alongside screenings of The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), The Host (2006) and Dark Water (2002), there will be an illustrated talk entitled “Surrounded by Water – Our Elemental Fear”. A monster-making workshop for all ages will allow audiences to animate their own personal monster into their local landscapes.
  • In the tradition of Scala All-Nighters, Creative Production Company Riot Productions will host an All Nighter Film Festival in Glasgow on the Winter Solstice (21 December). Centred around the “transgressive witch” and its feminist renaissance, the programme will mix rarely seen horror films with more commercially successful films, spanning 100 years of cinema, from Häxan (1922) to Argento’s original Suspiria (1977), alongside a Queer Witch-themed club night.
  • In partnership with House of Psychotic Women, Matchbox Cineclub will host a UK-wide tour, including several horror screenings as part of Weird Weekend at CCA, Glasgow, 28-30 October. Screenings and events include The Other Side of the Underneath (1972), I Like Bats (1986), Trompe l’oeil (1975), and an in-conversation session with Anna Bogutskaya.
  • Creative Stirling will also screen The Innocents, Ganja and Hess and Possession as part of their Celluloid Chills Festival. They have already screened Suspiria (1977) on 14 October.
